What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is a chronic medical condition that occurs when the body is unable to properly regular blood sugar (glucose) levels. This can happen due to insufficient insulin production, poor insulin response, or both. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that helps cells absorb glucose for energy.

Types of Diabetes:
Type 1 Diabetes: An autoimmune condition where the immune system attacks insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. This type usually develops in childhood or adolescence.
Type 2 Diabetes: The most common form, often associated with obesity and a sedentary lifestyle. In this type, the body either becomes resistant to insulin or does not produce enough insulin.
Gestational Diabetes: A form of diabetes that occurs during pregnancy and typically resolves after childbirth. It can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life.
Symptoms of Diabetes
Common symptoms include:
Increased thirst and frequent urination
Extreme fatigue
Blurred vision
Slow-healing sores or frequent infections
Unexplained weight loss (more common in Type 1)
Management and Treatment
Managing diabetes typically involves:
Regular monitoring of blood sugar levels
A balanced diet with controlled carbohydrate intake
Regular physical activity
Medications or insulin therapy as needed
Complications
If not managed properly, diabetes can lead to serious complications, including:
Heart disease and stroke
Nerve damage (neuropathy)
Kidney damage (nephropathy)
Eye damage (retinopathy)
Foot damage and infections
Understanding diabetes and its implications is crucial for effective management and prevention of complications.
